Nextera Energy Inc
NextEra Energy is a utility and power company that makes and delivers electricity. It owns Florida Power & Light, a regulated electric utility that serves homes and businesses in Florida, and it also owns a large power generation business that develops and runs wind, solar, battery storage, and other energy assets across North America. The company sells electricity to retail customers through its regulated utility and sells power under long-term contracts to utilities, cities, and large businesses through its energy resources business. That means part of its money comes from rates approved by regulators, while the other part comes from contracts tied to the electricity it produces and manages for customers. What makes NextEra different is its mix of a steady regulated utility and a large fleet of clean-energy projects. It sits between the developers that build power plants and the customers that buy electricity, so it earns money from both delivering power to local consumers and supplying contracted generation to the broader energy market.

Strong quarter: NextEra Energy said first-quarter adjusted earnings per share rose 10% year over year, with both FPL and Energy Resources contributing to the strength.
Growth outlook: Management kept 2026 adjusted EPS guidance at $3.92 to $4.02 and said it is targeting the high end of that range.
Large-load demand: The company said electricity demand is accelerating, with about 21 gigawatts of large-load interest at FPL and more than 30 data center hubs at Energy Resources.
CapEx up: FPL now expects full-year capital investments of $12 billion to $13 billion, up from prior expectations, largely because it is pulling forward supply to reduce trade risk.
Backlog strength: Energy Resources added 4 gigawatts of renewables and storage to backlog in the quarter, bringing backlog to about 33 gigawatts.
Big projects: NextEra said it expects to complete definitive agreements on the U.S.-Japan gas generation projects in the next 2 to 3 months and said turbine supply is not a concern.
Recontracting upside: The company said 600 megawatts of existing projects were recontracted at prices roughly $20 per megawatt hour above prior realized pricing.
