Boise Cascade Co
Boise Cascade makes and distributes wood building products used in homes and other light construction. It manufactures items such as plywood, engineered wood products, and other panels, and it also buys building materials from other producers and resells them through its distribution network. Its main customers are lumber yards, dealers, contractors, and home builders who need structural wood products and other construction materials. The company makes money in two ways: by selling products it manufactures itself and by earning margins as a wholesaler and distributor of products from third parties. What makes Boise Cascade different is that it sits in both parts of the building-materials chain. It is not just a factory or just a middleman; it combines manufacturing with distribution, which gives it reach with builders and contractors and lets it supply a broad mix of wood products through one channel.

Sales: Boise Cascade reported first quarter sales of $1.5 billion, down 2% year over year, as housing demand stayed uneven and weather disrupted activity in key regions.
Profit: Net income fell to $17.8 million, or $0.50 per share, from $40.3 million, or $1.06 per share, a year ago, reflecting lower margins in both businesses.
Guidance: Management guided second quarter EBITDA of $65 million to $80 million for BMD and $32 million to $47 million for Wood Products, with a wider range because demand and costs remain uncertain.
Pricing: Engineered wood pricing was stable sequentially in the quarter, but management said competitive pressure is still present and expects only flat to low-single-digit price declines in the second quarter.
Imports: The company expects more Brazilian plywood to reach the market in coming months, but said the near-term impact has been limited so far.
Returns: Boise Cascade repurchased about $91 million of stock in the first four months of 2026 and raised its quarterly dividend to $0.22 per share.
