OPKO Health Inc
OPKO Health is a healthcare company that makes money in two main ways: it runs clinical laboratory and diagnostic testing services, and it develops and sells prescription medicines. Its lab business provides blood and other tests that doctors and hospitals use to diagnose and monitor disease. Its pharmaceutical business sells approved drugs and also works on developing new treatments. The company’s main customers are doctors, hospitals, healthcare providers, patients, and sometimes other drug companies that license its products or research. OPKO earns revenue when its labs process tests, when its medicines are prescribed and sold, and when it receives licensing or collaboration payments tied to its drug programs. What makes OPKO different is that it sits in both the diagnostics and drug-development parts of healthcare. Many biotech companies only chase new medicines, while many lab companies only run testing services. OPKO combines both, which gives it more than one way to serve the healthcare system and more than one source of business.
