Best Buy Co Inc
Best Buy is a major electronics retailer that sells consumer technology products through its stores and website. Its shelves and online catalog cover TVs, laptops, smartphones, gaming gear, appliances, headphones, and smart home devices. It also sells warranties, protection plans, and repair services, which help customers after the original purchase. The company makes money mainly by buying products from manufacturers and wholesalers, then reselling them to shoppers at a markup. Its main customers are everyday consumers, families, and small businesses that want help choosing, setting up, or fixing electronics. Best Buy stands out because it is not just a box retailer; it combines product sales with advice, installation, delivery, and technical support. That service role matters because many electronics buyers want more than the lowest price. Best Buy also works with manufacturers and service partners to handle setup, repairs, and subscriptions tied to devices. In the consumer electronics market, it sits between the big brands that make the products and the shoppers who need a trusted place to compare, buy, and get support.

Beat and raise not needed: Best Buy beat first-quarter expectations with comparable sales up 2% versus guidance of about 1%, revenue of $8.9 billion, and adjusted diluted EPS of $1.28, up 11% year over year, while keeping full-year guidance unchanged.
Broad-based strength: Management said results improved across most major categories, led by gaming, computing, mobile phones and services, while appliances remained weak.
New profit streams: Best Buy Ads and Marketplace both exceeded internal targets and added to gross profit, with domestic marketplace GMV reaching about $250 million in the quarter.
Q2 momentum: Sales started strong in May with month-to-date comparable sales up high single digits, but the company still expects Q2 comps of about 1% because it will begin lapping last year’s Switch launch and later-quarter computing comparisons.
CEO transition: Corie Barry will step aside and Jason Bonfig will become CEO on November 1, with both leaders emphasizing continuity and acceleration of the existing strategy.
Cost and supply watch: Best Buy is pulling forward computing inventory to manage memory cost increases and does not expect material product shortages for the rest of FY '27.
