Mobico Group PLC
Mobico Group is a passenger transport company that moves people by bus and coach under brands such as National Express and ALSA. It runs scheduled intercity coaches, local bus routes, airport links, and other contracted transport services in the UK, Spain, North Africa, and North America. Its customers are everyday travelers, commuters, schools, employers, local governments, and public agencies that need reliable transport services. The company makes money mainly in two ways: by selling tickets directly to passengers and by operating transport services under contracts with public or private customers. In contract work, Mobico provides the vehicles, drivers, scheduling, and day-to-day service, while the customer often pays for the service to be run rather than for each individual trip. This gives the business a mix of consumer fare revenue and longer-term service agreements. What makes Mobico different is that it is not a manufacturer or a pure ticketing company. It sits in the middle of the transport chain, owning and operating the service that passengers actually use. That means its business depends on running routes efficiently, keeping schedules dependable, and winning transport contracts where operators are needed to manage daily travel for large groups of people.

Revenue Growth: Group revenue rose 7% year-on-year to GBP 1.3 billion, driven mainly by strong performance in ALSA and WeDriveU.
Profitability Challenge: Adjusted operating profit fell by GBP 8.7 million to GBP 59.9 million, mainly due to operational problems in WeDriveU and underperformance in several divisions.
Guidance Reaffirmed: Management expects full-year 2025 profit to be in line with previous guidance of GBP 180–195 million.
ALSA Strength: ALSA remains the group's strongest business, with double-digit underlying profit growth and successful diversification.
Cost Control Focus: New management is prioritizing cost reductions, overhead cuts, business simplification, and tighter capital expenditure.
Debt Reduction: Proceeds from the School Bus sale are being used to deleverage, aiming for a year-end covenant gearing of 2.5x.
Strategic Changes: U.K. Coach will join ALSA to create a pan-European coach business, targeting efficiency and synergy.
Problem Contracts: Ongoing operational and financial issues in WeDriveU (Washington contract) and German Rail are being actively addressed.
