NextNav Inc
NextNav is a positioning and timing company that builds location technology for places where GPS is weak or unavailable. Its core products help devices find not just latitude and longitude, but also altitude, which is useful for indoor use, dense cities, emergency response, and other situations where standard satellite signals are not enough. The company sells its technology to wireless carriers, device makers, public safety groups, and government customers. It makes money mainly by licensing its software and location services, and by providing network-based services that support mobile devices and emergency location use cases. In practice, NextNav sits between the device and the location system, adding a layer of accuracy and backup when satellite navigation fails. What makes NextNav different is that it is not trying to replace GPS with another satellite system. Instead, it focuses on a ground-based backup and an extra height signal that can make location data more useful. That gives it a niche role in the location stack, especially in markets where reliability, indoor coverage, and vertical positioning matter.

Regulatory progress: NextNav said the FCC has moved forward with a notice of proposed rulemaking for PNT technologies, which management called a critical step toward a GPS backup and complement.
Opposition rising: Management said opposition activity has increased, including an effort in the House Appropriations Committee to stall the NPRM, but it believes the record and FCC process remain on track.
Commercial/testing work: The company said experimental authorizations are supporting 5G PNT testing in Santa Clara and joint railroad testing in Pueblo, while tolling and other industry engagement continues.
New sensing angle: NextNav highlighted drone sensing as an emerging use case tied to the same 5G PRS signal used for PNT, and said its spectrum position makes the solution difficult to replicate.
Liquidity: NextNav ended the quarter with $143 million of cash and short-term investments and said warrant expirations in October could bring in over $200 million more capital, depending on stock price.
Quarterly loss: The company reported $12.6 million of gains from the change in fair value of derivative and warrant liabilities, which partially offset a net loss of $10.6 million.
