CarGurus Inc
CarGurus runs an online car-shopping marketplace that helps people compare vehicles from dealers and private sellers. Its website and app let shoppers search listings, check prices, and move from browsing to contacting a seller. The company sits in the middle of the used-car buying process, where trust, price transparency, and lead generation matter a lot. The main customers are car dealers, with consumers using the marketplace for free to find and evaluate vehicles. CarGurus makes most of its money by selling dealers advertising and subscription-style access to listing tools, marketplace exposure, and lead-generation services. It also earns from products that help dealers manage inventory, pricing, and digital retailing, plus related services tied to financing and transaction flow. What makes the business different is that it is not a car seller itself. Instead, it is a traffic and software layer for the auto market, connecting shoppers with dealer inventory and giving dealers a way to stand out online. That makes CarGurus part marketplace, part software provider, and part marketing channel for the car industry.

Strong Q1: CarGurus reported 15% year-over-year revenue growth to $244 million and adjusted EBITDA growth of 17% to $80 million, with margin at 33%.
Dealer momentum: Growth was driven by premium tier adoption, more use of AI-powered products, lead growth and net dealer additions, with U.K. and Canada revenue up 39% year over year.
AI rollout: Management said AI is increasingly embedded in both dealer workflow tools and consumer shopping experiences, including launches in ChatGPT and new products like Shopper Signals and Performance Insights.
Margins: Gross margin and spending were affected by timing items and a favorable Canadian tax-law item, but management reiterated full-year guidance and said 2026 is an investment year.
Capital return: The company bought back about $175 million of stock in Q1 and had $75 million left on its 2026 authorization at quarter-end.
Q2 outlook: Management guided second-quarter revenue to $247 million to $252 million and adjusted EBITDA to $77.5 million to $85.5 million, while keeping full-year revenue growth guidance unchanged at 10% to 13%.
