Record quarter: Apple reported March quarter revenue of $111.2 billion, up 17% year over year and above the high end of guidance, with records in iPhone, Services, EPS, and revenue across every geographic segment.
iPhone strength: iPhone revenue hit $57 billion, up 22%, driven by the iPhone 17 family. Management said demand was stronger than expected, even with supply constraints, and customer satisfaction for the lineup in the U.S. was 99%.
Supply limits: Apple said the quarter was constrained mainly by advanced-node supply for iPhone and, to a lesser extent, Mac. For the June quarter, the biggest constraints are expected to be several Mac models, especially Mac Mini, Mac Studio, and MacBook Neo.
Margin pressure: Apple expects significantly higher memory costs beyond the March quarter, with June gross margin guided to 47.5% to 48.5%. Management said memory will have an increasing impact after June and they will consider a range of options.
Capital returns: Apple ended the quarter with $62 billion of net cash, raised its dividend by 4% to $0.27 per share, and authorized an additional $100 billion for share repurchases. It also said net cash neutral is no longer a formal target.
Leadership transition: Tim Cook confirmed he will move to Executive Chairman on September 1 and said John Ternus is the right leader to take over as CEO, while Ternus said he will continue Apple’s disciplined approach to capital allocation.
China and India: Greater China revenue rose 28% in the quarter, while India remained a major growth opportunity. Cook said Apple still has modest share in India despite strong momentum and growing demand across product lines.
